Gion (祇園) is Kyoto’s most famous geisha district, located around Shijo Avenue, it is filled with shops, restaurants and teahouses. The Gion area has more preserved streets and traditional shops selling all kinds of local foods, crafts and souvenirs. A must to visit if you are around Kyoto. This is one of the most photographed places in Kyoto.

Gion (祇園) is well known as Kyoto’s foremost “geisha district”. On a visit to Kyoto´s Gion district, several women could be spotted walking around in kimonos, some in full makeup. Given the city’s history and status as one of Japan’s top centers of traditional culture.
